Senator Sulaiman Umar Sadiq, who represents Kwara North Senatorial District, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sadiq made the announcement on Monday while speaking on Politics Tonight, a political programme aired on Television Continental (TVC). He said his decision was based on his experience across the private and public sectors, which he believes has prepared him for the demands of leading the state.
The senator argued that Kwara North deserves the opportunity to produce the next governor, saying the region has waited long for a chance to occupy the state’s top political office. According to him, rotating the governorship would promote balanced development across the state.
Sadiq also dismissed concerns about opposition plans, saying the APC is not worried by reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may field its candidate from Kwara Central Senatorial District. He maintained that the ruling party remains strong across all three senatorial districts.
He added that the APC’s structure, reach, and support base place it in a strong position to win the 2027 governorship election. Sadiq expressed confidence that the party would retain power in the state if it presents a credible candidate.
The 2027 governorship race in Kwara State is expected to draw interest from across the state’s political landscape as parties begin early positioning ahead of the polls.
