A group of youths from Kogi State has raised ₦100 million to buy the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination form for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election. The group said the move reflects its support for the President’s leadership and ongoing reforms.
The ₦100 million dummy cheque was presented on Monday in Abuja to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda. Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo made the presentation on behalf of the youths.
President Tinubu has not formally declared his intention to seek re-election in 2027. However, several party leaders and organs, including the APC National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, zonal leaders and the APC Governors’ Forum, have publicly expressed support for a second term.
Speaking to journalists during the presentation, Yilwatda described the event as a major moment for the party. He said, “We are seeing young people from Kogi State taking decisive action—not to ask what the government or the President will do for them, but to ask what they can do to support Mr President so that he will return in 2027 and do much more for their people.”
Yilwatda said the youths cited economic gains and improved security as reasons for their action. According to him, they argued that “the economy has improved and that the indicators are looking green and positive,” while noting efforts to tackle insecurity in Kogi through cooperation between the federal government and the state.
He added that the President had deployed security forces, while the state government provided support to address local security concerns. He also said the youths pointed to federal appointments given to Kogi indigenes, including the Chief of Army Staff and the INEC Chairman.
Yilwatda further praised Governor Ododo’s performance in infrastructure, agriculture and youth empowerment. He said the donation showed a shift in youth participation in politics, adding, “This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that youths are not asking to receive, but are contributing to support a sitting President.”
