Hon. Saidu Alhassan has formally declared his intention to contest for the Kwara State House of Assembly seat in the 2027 general elections, seeking to represent the people of the Ilesha/Gwanara Constituency in Baruten Local Government Area.

Alhassan, who hails from Sinawu community in Baruten, said his decision followed months of wide consultations with community elders, political stakeholders, traditional leaders, and youth groups across the constituency. He described the move as a call to service and a commitment to give his people a stronger voice in state governance.

Speaking at a community gathering where he made the declaration, Alhassan said his priority would be to promote inclusive development and fair representation for all parts of the constituency. “Our people deserve good roads, better schools, and improved access to healthcare. I am offering myself to serve and to ensure that Ilesha and Gwanara communities are not left behind in the development agenda of Kwara State,” he said.

A former civil servant with Baruten Local Government Council, Alhassan noted that his years in the public sector have provided him with firsthand experience of the challenges facing rural communities. He said he understands the workings of local governance and believes that effective legislation and oversight can bring tangible improvements to the lives of ordinary citizens.

He highlighted youth empowerment, education, and agricultural development as key areas he would pursue if elected. According to him, empowering young people and supporting small farmers are essential to driving local economic growth and reducing rural poverty.

Alhassan also called for unity and cooperation among residents of Ilesha and Gwanara districts, stressing that political divisions often slow down progress. “We must work together for the collective good of our people. Development is only possible when we put community interest above personal ambition,” he added.

The declaration has drawn attention from political observers in the state, as Baruten remains a strategic part of Kwara North’s political landscape. With increasing interest in the 2027 elections, Alhassan’s entry into the race is expected to add momentum to political activities within the constituency.

He urged his supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and focused on issue-based politics as the election approaches, assuring them of transparent leadership and a commitment to the welfare of all residents if given the mandate.
