Major General Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd), a former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, has died at the age of 86.
Family sources confirmed that the retired general, popularly known as Abdullahi Adangba, passed away around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. His death has been described as a significant loss to Ilorin, Kwara State, and Nigeria’s military community.
Born in Ilorin, Mohammed attended the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in the United Kingdom, and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army in 1958. Over his career, he served in several key positions, including Director of Military Intelligence.
He was also a prominent figure in Nigeria’s military history, playing a role in the 1975 coup that removed General Yakubu Gowon from power and brought General Murtala Mohammed to leadership.
General Mohammed later transitioned to public service, where he became Chief of Staff to Presidents Obasanjo and Yar’Adua, earning a reputation for discipline, loyalty, and administrative skill.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by his family in the coming days.
