Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, representing Kwara North in the National Assembly, has apologised to his constituents over the misunderstanding that followed his comments during a recent Senate debate on security challenges in parts of the state.
In a personally signed statement, Senator Umar said his remarks were misinterpreted and were never intended to downplay the pain and losses suffered by residents affected by insecurity in the region.
“I am therefore sorry, because I am human — hence this slip in my presentation, especially not pointing out the challenge still being faced by some parts of Kwara North,” he stated.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to address insecurity, which he said has claimed many lives and disrupted livelihoods across communities in Kwara North.
He commended community leaders, traditional rulers, and members of local vigilante groups for their continued efforts in combating criminal activities in the region. He also pledged to intensify collaboration with both the state and federal governments to strengthen security and restore peace.
Senator Umar expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for their ongoing support toward improving security in the state.
“I know what is being done behind the scenes, and my people will soon see the results,” he added.
The senator reiterated his dedication to ensuring that peace and development return to Kwara North, assuring constituents that their concerns remain his top priority.
