Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has expressed concern over recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who described Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”
Kwankwaso said Nigeria remains a sovereign nation confronting diverse security challenges that affect citizens regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political belief. He urged the United States to support Nigeria with modern technology to strengthen its fight against insecurity instead of making remarks that could deepen divisions.
“The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs,” he said, calling on Washington to play a constructive role in helping Nigeria overcome its internal threats.
Kwankwaso advised the federal government to appoint special envoys from among experienced diplomats to engage with the U.S. government and ensure Nigeria’s interests are protected. He also called for the prompt appointment of permanent ambassadors to represent the country abroad.
Addressing Nigerians, he appealed for national unity in the face of external and internal pressures. “This is an important moment where we should emphasise unity of belonging over division,” he said.
