President Bola Tinubu will visit the United States on Tuesday for high-level diplomatic talks with the administration of President Donald Trump, according to senior officials familiar with the trip.
The visit comes as the US government continues to voice concern about attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria. President Trump has also recently warned that Washington could consider military action if the Nigerian government fails to address the violence.
Sources told SaharaReporters that President Tinubu will focus on security and bilateral cooperation during meetings in Washington, D.C. The visit is expected to include closed-door sessions with key US officials.
Officials said that President Trump has asked Vice President James David Vance to meet Tinubu during the trip, unless there is a late change in schedule.
The Presidency has not yet released a detailed statement on the visit. However, officials stressed that the meetings are part of ongoing efforts to ease tensions with the US and reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to protecting its citizens.
Further information on the agenda and duration of the trip is expected in the coming days.
