Alhaji Shuaib Yaman, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, has denied reports that he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yaman, in a statement issued by his Media Office and made available to Just Event Online TV, said he remains a member of the PDP and has neither resigned from the party nor announced plans to leave.

His reaction followed a social media post that purportedly welcomed him back to the APC. Yaman questioned the basis of the post, saying he had not joined the APC or expressed any intention to return to the party.

“It is curious that people would go as far as welcoming someone back to a party he has not joined and from which he has never announced any intention of joining,” he said.

Yaman said he had not told anyone of any decision to leave the PDP and described the report as misleading.

“I remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. I have not resigned from the PDP, neither have I communicated to anyone any decision to leave the party. Therefore, I find the purported welcome unnecessary and misleading,” he added.

He urged political actors and their supporters to stop sharing unverified information that could cause confusion over political affiliations.

Yaman said political differences were part of democracy but warned against relying on rumours, assumptions or false claims in political debates.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and asked his supporters, party members and the public to disregard the defection report.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I am in the PDP. I have not left the PDP, and I have not announced any plan to leave. Any contrary claim should therefore be treated for what it is; speculation,” he said.

Yaman said any decision to change his political affiliation would be announced by him in clear terms. He urged the public to rely on verified statements rather than social media graphics or posts about politicians’ party affiliations.
