The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for leading the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates on a courtesy visit to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The PDP described the visit as political theatre and questioned its value ahead of the 2027 elections. The party said taking candidates for the governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly to Abuja would not guarantee electoral support in Kwara.
In a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP asked the governor to explain whether he believed votes for Kwara were determined at the APC national secretariat.
The party also referred to the recent Osun governorship election, saying the result should remind the governor that electoral power rests with voters. It accused the AbdulRazaq administration of failing to address key concerns in communities across the state.
The PDP urged the governor to return the candidates to Kwara to engage voters and answer questions about the achievements of his administration over the past seven years.
The party also raised concerns about the cost of the Abuja trip. It asked the state government to disclose how much public money was spent on transportation, logistics and accommodation, as well as any cash gifts allegedly given to APC national officials.
The PDP further claimed that APC aspirants in Kwara had paid more than N2.5 billion for nomination forms for various elective positions. It said the governor should focus on taking the candidates to voters rather than on visits to party officials in Abuja.
The party said, “Abuja can produce endorsements, handshakes and photographs, but it cannot produce a single vote in Kwara State.”
The PDP said the 2027 elections would ultimately be decided at polling units across Kwara’s 16 local government areas.
The statement was issued on August 29, 2026, and signed by Adewara on behalf of the Kwara PDP.
