Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State is set to formally defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
According to party sources, the event will take place in Enugu and is expected to draw top APC leaders from across the country. About 25 governors elected on the party’s platform are scheduled to attend the ceremony.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will reportedly lead the Federal Government delegation, while APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, will arrive with members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to officially welcome Mbah.
All members of the Enugu State House of Assembly are said to be defecting alongside the governor. Most members of the National Assembly from Enugu State—except Senator Okey Ezea—are already members of the APC.
Local government chairmen across the state are also expected to join the defection.
The development marks a major political shift in Enugu, traditionally considered a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
If confirmed, Mbah’s defection would significantly strengthen the APC’s influence in the South-East ahead of future elections.
