The All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing a wave of defections across Kwara State as politicians and party members in the three senatorial districts move to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
In Kwara South, former APC State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Folaranmi Aro, joined the PDP at its secretariat in Offa on Tuesday alongside other APC members. The move drew party supporters and stakeholders who welcomed the new members at the event.

Aro’s defection is a setback for the APC in the district, given his former role as the party’s state publicity secretary. His move also adds to the growing list of APC members leaving the party ahead of the next general election.
In Kwara North, the PDP also welcomed Hon. Samuel Ezekiel Mayaki, popularly known as Real Dodondawa, from the APC. Mayaki previously sought the APC chairmanship ticket in Edu Local Government Area and has been active in grassroots politics.

The movement also reached Kwara Central, where hundreds of APC members from Magaji N’geri Ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area joined the PDP on Monday.
The defectors were said to belong to the political structure linked to Alhaji Baba Eleyin. They were received by PDP leaders, ward executives and other party stakeholders during a gathering in the area.

Speaking through a representative, the defectors cited dissatisfaction with the APC leadership as a key reason for their decision. They said they chose the PDP after assessing both parties and concluding that it offered a more favourable political platform.
The three defections have given the PDP a boost as both major parties step up grassroots mobilisation across Kwara ahead of the 2027 elections.
