President Bola Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Dr Ahmed Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for another five-year term. The reappointment took effect on Friday, February 27, according to a statement released on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu renews the tenure of Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of NSCDC,’ confirmed that Audi will continue in office after the expiration of his initial term. Audi was first appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His first five-year tenure ended last Friday after he took part in activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day in Abuja.
“He will resume his duties on Monday with a renewed mandate,” Onanuga stated. President Tinubu tasked Audi with strengthening the role of the corps in national security. He urged the NSCDC to provide stronger support as the police concentrate on their core duties, including the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
Audi was born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. He has led the NSCDC through reforms aimed at protecting critical national assets and supporting internal security efforts across the country.
