The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark International Workers’ Day.
Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the holiday on behalf of the government. In a statement signed by Permanent Secretary Magdalene Ajani on April 29, he congratulated Nigerian workers and praised their role in national development.
The minister said workers across the country have shown commitment, discipline, and dedication in their duties. He noted that their efforts remain important to Nigeria’s growth and economic progress.
“The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day,” the statement said.
Tunji-Ojo also restated the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and security. He said the administration would continue to support policies that create a better environment for economic growth and job opportunities.
He urged workers to keep promoting patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty. He also called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the holiday.
The minister encouraged citizens to use the occasion to reflect on the value of unity, hard work, and collective effort in building the nation.
