The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMA, Major General C.R. Nnebeife, has visited Ayekale community in Omu-Aran Local Government Area of Kwara State following a recent bandit attack that left three people dead.
The visit on October 9, 2025, came after gunmen attacked traders at Olegbede village, about 12 kilometres from Idofin Ayekale. During the visit, Major General Nnebeife met with the traditional ruler, Oba Pius Oluwole Oni Dofin of Idofin Odoeshe Ayekale, and extended condolences to the community over the incident.
Oba Pius attributed the attack to the community’s proximity to the Babasango Forest, which he said has become a hideout for criminal groups operating in the area.
Major General Nnebeife assured the monarch that the Nigerian Army would intensify operations across the forest to eliminate bandits and restore peace. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the region.
Earlier, during an operational visit to the Patrol Base at Babanla, troops under the GOC’s command advanced into Babasango Forest and rescued two kidnapped victims. The victims were later handed over to Oba Pius Oluwole during the GOC’s visit to the community.
The Nigerian Army said the operation reflects its ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in Kwara and neighbouring states through coordinated patrols and community engagement.
The visit and rescue operation were part of broader military actions under Operation FANSAN YAMA, aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and improving security along the Kwara–Kogi border axis.
