The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed it is investigating the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, following corruption allegations made by social media personality Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan. The Force said the review is an internal administrative process, while the related criminal case remains before a court.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said AIG Jimoh had been invited for questioning as part of its internal accountability procedures. It also confirmed that Otse had been invited to provide evidence to support the allegations he made publicly.
“The criminal matter referenced in public commentary was investigated and is now before a court of competent jurisdiction, following the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). As the matter is subjudice, its adjudication rests solely with the judiciary,” the statement said.
The police added that it would not allow media campaigns or public commentary to influence the outcome of the case. It said disciplinary and criminal matters would be handled through established legal and administrative procedures.
According to the statement, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, issued a formal invitation to Otse on July 30, 2026, asking him to appear and substantiate the claims he has made against the senior officer.
For several weeks, Otse has accused AIG Jimoh of corruption in a series of videos posted on social media. Responding to the allegations, the police said every credible complaint would be investigated, regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the profile of the complainant.
The Force also warned that while citizens have the right to free expression, that right does not include making defamatory or unproven allegations. It said officers found guilty after investigation would face sanctions under the law, while anyone found to have made false claims could also face legal action.
The police urged Otse to honour the FCID invitation and allow both the administrative review and the ongoing court proceedings to continue without interference.
