Recent public reactions to statements about insecurity in Kwara North have stirred emotions and debate across the region. While frustration over persistent security challenges is understandable, observers are urging that discussions remain fair, factual, and devoid of misrepresentation.
Senator Sadiq Sulaiman Umar, representing Kwara North, has been one of the most visible and responsive lawmakers in addressing insecurity in the area. From Kaiama to Baruten, Edu, Patigi, and Moro, he has consistently mobilized support for affected communities and engaged both state and federal authorities to secure long-term solutions.
This was according to Senator Sadiq’s media aide, Faruq Idris Shiya, noting that the Senator has also maintained a close working relationship with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose administration has prioritized collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, and local leaders. This joint effort has strengthened the fight against rural banditry and other criminal activities across the state.
One of the most significant outcomes of this partnership was the dismantling of the Mamuda terrorist group, which had operated along the Kainji–Kaiama–Baruten corridor. The Federal Government’s success in that operation, observers note, was supported by sustained advocacy from Senator Umar, the governor’s coordination at the state level, and vigilance from local communities.
Critics have questioned the senator’s recent comments on the security situation, suggesting they downplayed ongoing threats. However, supporters argue that his remarks were intended to reflect cautious optimism about progress achieved through collective action. They maintain that it is inaccurate to portray him as disconnected from his constituents.
Although not without shortcomings, Senator Umar is recognized for his humility, accessibility, and quiet approach to service. Unlike some politicians who seek publicity, he has often allowed others to take credit for projects he helped initiate, reflecting his view that leadership is about service, not competition.
As insecurity remains a nationwide concern, stakeholders emphasize the need for unity and constructive engagement rather than blame. They urge residents of Kwara North to continue supporting efforts by the Federal Government, the AbdulRazaq administration, and Senator Umar to secure and develop the region.
At a time when political divisions can easily overshadow progress, calls for objectivity and collaboration are growing louder. Many believe that meaningful progress will come not from condemnation, but from cooperation and shared commitment to peace and stability in Kwara North.
