Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved N8.1 billion for the payment of gratuities to retired state and local government workers in Kwara State.
Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hawau Nuhu, announced this during the third-quarter inter-ministerial briefing on Tuesday in Ilorin. She said N5.6 billion of the total amount would go to retired state workers, while N2.5 billion was allocated to local government retirees.
Dr. Nuhu explained that the state government remains committed to clearing outstanding pension and gratuity arrears. She noted that payments would be made gradually to balance welfare obligations with ongoing development projects.
According to her, the administration aims to sustain a responsible financial policy that addresses workers’ entitlements without disrupting funding for infrastructure, education, and health initiatives.
The approval adds to recent efforts by the state government to improve workers’ welfare and strengthen the social safety net for retirees who served the state.
