The Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Professor Uduma Uduma as the institution’s new Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Isah Yuguda, during a press conference.
Uduma, a Professor of Philosophy and Logic and a Barrister-at-Law, emerged as the successful candidate after a competitive selection process involving 30 contenders. He will assume office on February 11, 2026, when the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters, ends.
Before his appointment, Uduma served as NOUN’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). He is from Ebonyi State and is widely recognized for his contributions to philosophy and higher education.
Yuguda described the new Vice-Chancellor as “an accomplished scholar with strong research visibility and a well-respected presence on Google Scholar.” He expressed confidence that Uduma’s leadership would further strengthen the university’s academic and institutional development.
“The University looks forward to Professor Uduma’s leadership and vision as he assumes office on February 11, 2026. We are confident that his expertise and experience will drive the University’s continued growth and success,” Yuguda said.
